Thank you so much for visiting my Team Animal League page!
I've been an athlete all my life and have been running half marathons for the last few years thanks to some added motivation from my sister, but even though I've now completed six half marathons, the idea of committing to a full marathon has always intimidated me. 26.2 miles is a long way. What if I can't do it? Turns out, the extra nudge I needed this time around was a movie.
At the 2019 Sundance Film Festival I caught the movie Brittany Runs A Marathon. It stars Jillian Bell as the title character, a 27-year-old living in New York City who hits a point in her life when she has to get her act together. It isn't easy, but taking on the challenge of running the NYC Marathon winds up giving her more motivation and confidence than she ever expected. I don't want to spoil the details of the movie for you but I can tell you that when I walked out of that screening, the doubt was gone - I was going to run the 2019 TCS NYC Marathon.
And here I am now! Running the New York City Marathon for myself, but also for an organization I really believe in, the North Shore Animal League. I am a lifelong pet lover and my cat Dewey has my heart. But I know there are so many animals out there who aren't as lucky as Dewey and need loving homes, and the thought that I can help make that happen by running the marathon on behalf of North Shore Animal League gives me more motivation than ever.
Ultimately this race is combining my three biggests passions - movies, family and animals. What better reasons to commit to pushing myself further than ever? And you can help me on this journey by donating to my run today. Whatever you can give is truly appreciated and will go towards saving nearly 18,000 dogs, cats, puppies and kittens every year.
