If you know me, you know that I think dogs are the best thing there is on this Earth. In particular, you know how I feel about my dog, Mooch.
I believe that he has softened me, healed me, and just all around made me a happier, better person. Through the ups and the downs, he has been a constant of unconditional love and companionship. I hope that everyone reading this can experience that sort of relationship with an animal, at least once in their lives.
...which brings me to the reason I invited you to this page. It has always been my dream to run the NYC Marathon. And when I did it, I always wanted to do it for a good cause. So, I was over the moon when I found out this March that the charity nearest and dearest to my heart – North Shore Animal League – had chosen me to be a part of their team.
Animal League is the biggest no-kill rescue organization in the world. Since 1944, they have saved the lives of more than 1.1 million cats and dogs. For a year between grad school and re-entering the news industry, I also worked for their Mutt-i-grees Curriculum – a social emotional learning program created with Yale University – in which they take rescue animals into NYC schools to teach kids about empathy and resilience. So, I have seen firsthand the incredible work Animal League does both for rescue animals and the larger community.
Their mission is a future in which all companion animals find responsible, loving homes where they are free from abuse, hunger, fear, and loneliness and receive the care and respect they deserve.
Please help me in supporting that vision by donating to my run. Whatever you can give is truly appreciated and will go towards saving thousands of dogs, cats, puppies and kittens every year.
Animal League is headquartered in New York, but they have 2,000 shelter partners across the country and around the globe. So, your donation will truly help rescue animals around the world. What could be better than that?
